Sunday, November 22, 2020, 15:14 In mid-November, the parole board met and discussed a request by the terrorist Nadal Jabarin for early release. However, during a Sunday, November 22 deliberation his attorney withdrew the request. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is assisting the victim, responded: “We hope that we contributed our part to removing the disgrace of someone having thoughts of early release for the terrorist. We will continue to follow the case in order to prevent an additional attempt for early release for a terrorist who as it is received a ridiculous penalty for his acts.”
Jabarin is serving a six and a half year sentence for racially motivated aggravated assault. On October 29, 2015, Jabarin stabbed a woman in the shoulder as she waited at a bus stop in Eilat. When the woman screamed, the terrorist fled, but was apprehended a short time later and detained. Under interrogation he admitted that he had planned to carry out an attack on Jews and also stated that he had been influenced by video clips of attacks that had been publicized in the news media. The victim asked the parole board not to reduce the terrorist’s prison sentence.
In June 2020, with the assistance of Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, the victim expressed her opposition to the early release of the terrorist in writing to the parole board. In the letter, Bleicher wrote: “The terrorist was convicted of the serious crime of aggravated assault. The range of penalties goes far beyond the penalty imposed on the terrorist, six and a half years. Reducing his sentence will constitute severe damage to the public trust in the legal and justice systems.”
Bleicher added that the terrorist had acted as part of a cruel wave of terror in Israel: “The terrorist acted out of an ideological motivation and extensively prepared to murder Jews and possibly to be a ‘shahid’. Early release of the terrorist would pose a danger to the citizens of Israel.”
An additional reason for her objection to the early release is her suffering from post-traumatic stress that does not allow her to function normally, including at her job. She has coped with severe emotional conditions since the attack. Bleicher concluded: “Reducing the penalty of the terrorist will constitute deepening the damage to the petitioner’s trust in the legal and justice systems and is liable to exacerbate her emotional condition.”
