Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 12:48 In late January, a member of the security squad in a community near the “seam zone” investigated a report of an Arab woman wandering around the community in a suspicious manner. The squad member briefly detained the woman and asked her to present a form of identification. She replied that she worked as a teacher in the local school and that her identification card was in her car. The squad member photographed her for identification purposes, verified her identity with officials in the community, and released her.

After the incident, the Arab woman complained to the police and falsely claimed that the squad member had threatened her with his weapon. Based solely on her statement, the police confiscated the weapon. On February 5, one week after the incident, Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar represented the squad member before the Kfar Saba Magistrates Court. Attorney Keidar presented video evidence recorded by security cameras at the scene that proved that the squad member did not threaten the Arab woman with his weapon. In light of the evidence, Attorney Keidar demanded that the court order the weapon returned to the squad member. The court accepted the evidence, and ruled that the weapon would be immediately returned to the squad member.

Attorney Keidar commented on the case: “The handling of the incident is incomprehensible. Without conducting a simple examination of the security cameras at the site, the police accepted the testimony of the complainant and confiscated my client’s weapon. My client did his job faithfully, professionally, and politely. The community in which he lives is adjacent to the ‘seam zone’, and the residents live in fear of, and are prepared for, an attack similar to that which occurred on October 7, 2023. The evidence presented puts my client’s role during the incident into a clear light. I welcome the court’s decision to return my client’s weapon to him without delay.”
