Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 16:56 Last week (January 2), Ariel Dahari, a young Shomron resident engaged to be married in approximately two weeks, received an administrative order signed by the GOC of the Home Front Command, Major-General Rafi Milo. The order prohibits Dahari from leaving Nof Ayalon, the community in which his parents live, which is not in the Shomron. The order was issued immediately after a similar order imposed on him expired. Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing Dahari, sent a letter to Major-General Milo requesting that he immediately cancel the order. Major-General Milo left the order standing and denied all requests from Dahari to leave Nof Ayalon to prepare for his wedding.
Major-General Milo replied with a letter to Keidar stating that he had reached the conclusion that the order was necessary to “ensure the security of the State and public peace.” The letter continues: “There is evidence based on significant intelligence information that indicates that [Dahari] poses a danger. Regarding your request to transfer [the location stipulated in the order] to Yad Binyamin, your client staying in that community would be likely to thwart the purpose of the order and therefore it is not possible to accede to it.” (The couple signed a lease for a housing unit in Yad Binyamin.)
The request for Dahari to leave Nof Ayalon for the necessary arrangements for his wedding was also rejected: “In light of the generality of the request and the information that the security authorities have regarding the danger that your client poses, the GOC of the Home Front Command has found it correct to reject your request.”
Dahari is also forbidden to make contact with his fiancée’s brother other than on the day of the wedding: “In light of the danger posed by such contact, it is impossible to completely accede to your request. The GOC of the Home Front Command decided to allow [the brother’s] name to be removed from the list of banned contacts specifically on the wedding day of your client.”
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar responded to the letter: “The restrictions that have been imposed on Ariel Dahari for years constitute a severe violation of his liberty and freedom of movement. Currently, when the young man is trying to build a home, it would be expected that the authorities would allow and encourage him in his efforts. But instead, the GSS continues their persecution of him, with means against which he cannot defend himself. He should be charged, then he will be able to completely prove his innocence, and the heavy restrictions constantly weighing on him will be lifted.”
