Wednesday, September 25, 2024, 11:46 In late July, ten soldiers were detained at the Sde Teiman military base on suspicion of assaulting a Nukhba terrorist. Five of the soldiers have already been completely released. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar are representing some of the other five, who were released from two month’s remand in a military prison and placed under nighttime house arrest one month ago. Upon their clients’ release from prison, Attorneys Keidar and Rom demanded that the soldiers be allowed to return to their jobs, in light of the fact that the investigation had been completed. The court agreed to their demand.
This morning (Wednesday), after a long legal battle led by Attorney Keidar, the military court relaxed the five soldiers’ house arrest conditions and canceled the requirement for human supervision over them. Attorneys Keidar and Rom will demand that the soldiers be completely released from house arrest so that they can celebrate the upcoming holidays with their families.
Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom welcomed the military court’s decision and stated that they would continue to work toward complete cancelation of the soldiers’ release conditions.
In light of the media leak in the case, the Beit Lid Military Court of Appeals ruled that, “The Military Advocate General is required to promptly reply to the question of how investigative material reached the news media, in light of the claims of possible damage to the integrity of the investigation.”
Attorney Rom wrote a letter to the Attorney General demanding that she order an investigation into the leak and put those responsible for it on trial. The Attorney General replied that she had transferred the handling of the investigation to the IDF.
Following the last house arrest extension, the Honenu Attorneys Rom and Keidar requested to receive the investigative material in the case from the military prosecution.
