Tuesday, July 30, 2024, 17:47 New details about the alleged assault on a terrorist at the Sde Teiman military base have been revealed. Prior to the incident, the accused soldiers received intelligence information about the great danger that the terrorist posed, concerns of an expected riot, and a potential assault on soldiers. In addition, the soldiers were informed in a briefing that the terrorist had taken part in riots in Ofer Prison.
The hearing for the soldiers detained on the Sde Teiman base began at the Neve Tzedek Military Court shortly after 17:00 today (Tuesday). Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom, who are representing some of the detainees, will demand their release. The soldiers’ families have not been allowed to attend the hearing, and Honenu Attorney Nati Rom strongly criticized the decision: “When we arrived at the courtroom at the start of the hearing, we were surprised to hear that the court president had decided not to admit the soldiers’ families to the hearing. The decision is anomalous and inexplicable. Families of arch-terrorists are allowed to be present at their hearings, and those of our finest soldiers are not? The situation is completely backwards.”
Earlier, it was revealed that the allegedly assaulted terrorist, a Hamas company commander from Jabalia in the Gaza Strip, attempted to wrest a taser from a soldier during the incident. One soldier was lightly injured. With great determination, the soldiers succeeded in overpowering the terrorist.
Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom issued a statement: “The soldiers were assaulted after they answered a call to assist with an incident. They risked their lives over long months, as their families greatly suffered, at a job that nobody else could do in their stead – not the Military Criminal Investigation Division (MCID) and not the Military Advocate General, who would not have lasted even one day at their job, and certainly not a week.”
Yesterday, Honenu Attorneys Rom and Keidar were prevented on various pretexts from meeting with the detainees and granting them legal counsel.
