Rabbi Dov Lior
Thursday, September 17, 2020, 17:23 Rabbi Dov Lior and Rabbi Elyakim Levanon have called for reexamining the sentencing in the Kfar Duma arson case, and have asked the public to support Amiram Ben Uliel. The rabbis stated that the public must take action to bring justice to light, and to allow Amiram to prove his innocence.
Rabbi Dov Lior, the former Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Arba-Hevron: “They sentenced him [Amiram] to three life sentences. He denies all charges. This is most painful to anyone who cares about settling our Holy Land, to anyone who cares about the sovereignty of the Jewish people in all parts [of Israel]. Many people who care want to file an appeal on this ruling.
“Everyone who can help, should contribute, so that justice will come to light. Because if, G-d forbid, an injustice is done here, it will not be only a problem of suffering for one man. There is no doubt that anyone who can donate and assist is not acting only for the personal benefit of one man, but rather for the sake of Am Yisrael. I hope that it will not be long before the words of the prophet come true, ‘Tzion will be redeemed with justice, and they who return to her out of righteousness,’ [Isaiah 1:27] and that it occurs soon in our days and that we merit seeing justice coming to light.”
Rabbi Lior concluded with a Rosh HaShana blessing for the public and a blessing for redemption in the year to come: “Do not give up. The Sages say ‘even if a sharp sword is at a man’s neck he should not think that he cannot be saved’. May you be successful.”
Rabbi Elyakim Levanon
Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, the Chief Rabbi of the Shomron and the head of Yeshivat Elon Moreh: “A true friend of ours is in dire straits. Amiram Ben Uliel has been sentenced to three life sentences through no fault of his own. It is clear to me that he had no part in the murder which they claim he committed. He did not commit this atrocious act. We all know that it was an atrocious act, but he did not commit it. There are clear testimonies, but the court did not consider them and sentenced him to three life sentences.”
Rabbi Levanon called on the public for support: “He [Amiram] and his family are in a crisis. All of Am Yisrael is in a crisis. I call on each and every one to join the campaign to release this innocent man and to free him from all guilt, both with prayers on Rosh HaShana and with substantial contributions. I call on everyone to donate generously and wholeheartedly in order to recruit the best [attorneys] who will prove the innocence of Amiram Ben Uliel.”
Rabbis’ letter of support
Dozens of leading rabbis from the entire range of the national-religious sector have come out in support of Amiram Ben Uliel, to whom the Central District Court in Lod handed down three life sentences. The rabbis have called on the public to assist the campaign in support of Ben Uliel and stated that his conviction on the basis of a confession extracted under extreme duress is unacceptable, and that is sufficient to release him. Among the rabbis are Rabbi Dov Lior, Rabbi Haim Drukman, Rabbi Meir Mazuz, Rabbi Tzvi Tau, Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, and Rabbi Simcha Shtatner.
The campaign, which is expected to continue until this evening (Thursday) has garnered massive support and has already raised a total sum of over one million NIS from over 3,700 contributors.
