Thursday, August 22, 2024, 21:24 The police informed Honenu Attorney Nati Rom of the release this evening of a minor who was detained this morning (Thursday) on suspicion of involvement in disturbances in the Arab town of Jit. Attorney Rom is representing the minor and three adults who were detained with him. The police decided not to bring the adults to court and request a remand extension for them. They are expected to be released later tonight.

Honenu Attorney Rom issued a statement: “This morning, four individuals, one of them a 14-year-old minor, were detained on suspicion of involvement with disturbances in the Arab town of Jit. The Israel Police and the GSS rushed to issue press releases. It seems that pressure from left-wing organizations, the media, and the American government is working. Unfortunately, people are being detained wholesale, despite the lack of any substantial evidence against them. As of this moment, the detainees have not been brought to a court hearing, which raises suspicions regarding grounds for the detention. It appears that either they will be released or that this is another cynical abuse of criminal proceedings before turning to administrative measures. We have been informed that one of the detainees, the minor, is being released at the police station at this moment. We very much hope that the persecution of Jewish citizens by the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police will stop. It is unacceptable for innocent people to be detained only because of outside pressures. Incidents must be handled in criminal proceedings and according to the law.”
