Monday, December 30, 2024, 9:08 In August 2024, an Arab working for the Jerusalem Municipality vandalized a car owned by a Jew in the Ma’alot Daphna neighborhood of the city. The owner filed a complaint with the police and attached documentation of the incident. Despite the evidence – see video below – the police closed the case without an indictment, claiming that no suspects had been found. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher appealed the decision and demanded that the police re-open the case and put the Arab on trial.
In his letter, Attorney Bleicher described the incident: “My client lives in the Ma’alot Daphna neighborhood of Jerusalem. On August 14, 2024, an Arab municipal worker responsible for cleaning the street for the benefit of the residents arrived at the site. In an examination of the security cameras mounted on the building [overlooking my client’s car], the worker is seen looking to both sides to verify that nobody can see him, and then using a broomstick to smash my client’s headlight. My client called the police, who took the suspect’s personal details and directed my client to file a complaint. My client filed a complaint at your station and submitted documentation of the incident. For an unclear reason, the case was closed on the grounds that no suspects had been found.”
Attorney Bleicher issued a statement after sending the letter: “Islamist terrorists do not balk at any opportunity to injure Jews or damage their property, even when the terrorists are at work. The motivation for the vandalism is obvious. The law enforcement authorities must do everything in their power to eradicate terror.”
