Assaulted Jewish youths detained in Jerusalem

Sunday, July 29, 2018, 00:02 On Saturday night, at the close of Shabbat five Jewish youths, some of them minors, were assaulted by several rock-throwing Arabs as they returned from the Tomb of Shimon HaTzaddik in Jerusalem. Policemen who arrived at the scene detained the Jewish youths and brought them to the police station. None of the Arab assailants were detained.
Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski, who is assisting the detainees, stated that, “The conduct of the police was shameful. Several Jewish youths were assaulted with rocks in a hostile area and instead of dealing with the Arab assailants, the police detained the victims. It was the easiest and most convenient thing to do, and also the most unjust.”
As of now it is unknown whether or not the youths will remain in remand overnight.
Update: Sunday, July 29, 2018, 11:40 The detainees were released at dawn on condition of bail and an order distancing them from the Shimon HaTzaddik neighborhood. The Arab assailants have not yet been detained.
