Monday, March 31, 2025, 12:19 A newly-engaged couple, Avia and Shahar Anteman were brutally attacked in Beit HaHoshen, overlooking the Temple Mount, immediately after their engagement in May 2021. Numerous Arab terrorists took part in the attack, five of whom were arrested and sentenced to between six and nine years’ imprisonment. The last two were convicted in July 2022. The couple was also awarded compensation.

Recently, in a compromise agreement with one of the convicted terrorists, the Jerusalem District Court awarded the couple NIS 20,000 compensation in criminal proceedings. In August 2024, the court awarded them NIS 30,000 compensation from two additional terrorists in civil proceedings. A civil suit for NIS two million is currently pending against another two terrorists who were convicted in the case.

Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the couple, welcomed the decision: “Our efforts are directed at ensuring that everyone who takes part in an attack on Jews will serve a harsh prison sentences and be required to financially compensate their victims. This terrorist criminal, like his fellow terrorists, was ordered in criminal proceedings to pay compensation. Now he has been ordered to pay additional compensation in civil proceedings. Hurting terrorists in their pockets by awarding compensation to their victims contributes to deterrence against terror and improves the security of Israeli citizens.”

In May 2021, Avia proposed to Shahar in Beit HaHoshen, and then they headed toward Beit Orot. On their way, their vehicle was blocked by other cars. At the A-Tor Intersection, dozens of Arab rioters threw rocks at them. Avia got out of the car and was beaten, pelted with rocks, and then stabbed in the back. Shahar escaped on foot and hid behind a parked car until the police arrived. The couple met up again in Beit Orot. Avia was evacuated, injured and bleeding, to Sha’arei Tzedek Hospital. He suffered a head injury, stab wounds to his back, and a punctured lung. Because of prolonged hospitalization and outpatient treatments, the couple postponed their engagement party.
