Wednesday, August 14, 2024, 13:44 At the beginning of the week, police detained a right-wing activist at the Yad Mordechai Junction on his way to an organized group reading of the Book of Lamentations, traditionally read on Tisha B’Av (this year August 12-13), near the Netzarim Corridor in the Gaza Envelope. The police claimed that the activist had violated a closed military zone order and had planned to hold an illegal demonstration in the prohibited zone. Honenu Attorney Assaf Gonen, who is representing the activist, claimed before the Be’er Sheva Magistrates Court that he had not violated any order and had not entered the prohibited zone. The court accepted Attorney Gonen’s claim and released the activist. The police filed an appeal with the Be’er Sheva District Court, who rejected it.
Honenu Attorney Assaf Gonen: “We thank the court for refusing to agree to the false detention of a citizen who did not commit any offense.”
