Thursday, December 29, 2022, 8:33 Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter to the police demanding that the Arabs who attacked a student from Yeshivat Ateret Cohanim in the Old City of Jerusalem be detained. Bleicher described the attack in the letter: “My client is a student at Yeshivat Ateret Cohanim. He has an external Jewish appearance, wears a large kippa, and has long payot. As my client was walking down the road, minding his own business, a group of approximately 15 Arabs appeared in front of him. They approached my client, and when they reached him, one of them suddenly pulled one of his payot in a humiliating manner. The rest of the group joined the assailant with disparaging slurs and then called out disgraceful curses at my client.”
Bleicher added, “My client felt extremely embarrassed and humiliated by the contemptible antisemitic attack, in addition to the physical pain from the [pulled hair]. My client turned around to report the incident to the police who were standing behind him, but the group blocked his path and tried to prevent him from doing so. By the time he finally succeeded in reaching the policemen, the group had walked away from the scene of the incident.”
In conclusion, Bleicher mentioned the widespread phenomenon that the police must combat: “This was an intolerable, humiliating, antisemitic attack by a large group of Arabs who acted together. The incident has been added to the list of serious incidents in the area. The ‘street terror’ designed to humiliate and drive Jews out of public areas must be forcibly stopped. The methods of the terrorists imitate the behavior of the most bitter enemies of the Jews throughout generations and thus declare their intentions. I demand that the documentation of the incident on the Mabat Alpayim security cameras be located as soon as possible, the participants of the attack be identified, and the 15 members of the group be detained for an antisemitic attack.”
