Monday, September 9, 2024, 9:30 Last Tuesday, the Yehuda and Shomron Police and the GSS detained three Yehuda and Shomron residents, two of them minors. The detainees were taken to GSS dungeons and interrogated without being granted their right to meet with an attorney. On Thursday, the prohibition to meet with an attorney was extended by three days for the minors. Honenu Attorneys Daniel Shimshilashvili, Moshe Poleski, and Assaf Gonen, who are representing the detainees, fought a legal battle at the end of which they were finally permitted to meet with the minors yesterday (Sunday). The adult detainee has been prohibited from meeting with an attorney for an additional two days, and a gag order has been imposed on the case.
Attorney Shimshilashvili stated, “We are pleased that after a decisive legal battle, the minors were allowed to meet with their attorneys. We will continue to fight uncompromisingly any attempt by ineffective, power-drunk security authorities to violate the rights of detainees as part of the defeatist policy that was shattered to pieces on October 7.”
Attorney Poleski continued, “In light of this case not being particularly serious, the harsh measures that the GSS, who are entrusted with the war on terror, have taken against minors from Yehuda and Shomrom for the purpose of pressuring them into making false confessions are inexplicable. Their basic rights were violated as they were interrogated, isolated from the rest of the world, not allowed to meet attorneys, and unable to distinguish between day and night. Arab terror is raging, Jews are being murdered, and the GSS is persecuting minors from Yehuda and Shomron. This is an embarrassment and a disgrace.”
Attorney Gonen added, “From the beginning, we asserted that the entire purpose of depriving the detainees of legal counsel was to break their spirits and extract false confessions by force while trampling their most fundamental right to be tried in court. We will continue to fight in every legal way for a fair trial.”
