District court rejects Honenu’s appeal, arson suspect will remain in remand

Friday, May 31, 10:51. On the morning of Friday, May 31, the Jerusalem District Court rejected the appeal filed by Honenu on the remand extension of the fifth detainee suspected of involvement with setting on fire a field belonging to an Arab in the village of Zif in the Har Hevron region on Tuesday, May 28.
Four out of the five detainees were released after both the Jerusalem Magistrate and District Courts ruled that there is no basis to a connection between the youths and the arson.
Judge Rivka Friedman-Feldman rejected the appeal despite the plea made by attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir, who represented the youth on behalf of Honenu, that in similar cases of arson in which Arabs set brush fires the police did not demand a remand extension on the suspects.
The detainee will remain in remand until Sunday, June 2.
