Sunday, June 25, 2023, 20:20 Last week, several Yehuda and Shomron residents were detained by the GSS, among them friends of the Eli terror attack victims. The detainees are prohibited from meeting with an attorney and their status is unknown. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar are representing the detainees.
One of the detainees was a friend of Nachman Mordoff, Hy”d, one of the victims. The detainee’s father spoke about the treatment of his son: “My son was a good friend of one of the murder victims. They studied together, slept in the same tent, and were about to enlist together in a month and a half. It pains us that instead of receiving support and psychological counseling from the State, our son and his friends, who experienced a huge loss, find themselves detained in the GSS dungeons.”
Attorney Rom added, “The detainee is not allowed to meet with an attorney and is being interrogated under severe conditions in the GSS dungeons. This is unacceptable and does not occur in other sectors. He is suspected of causing serious property damage. However, in cases of serious incidents in northern and southern Israel, it is uncommon for detainees to be prevented from meeting with an attorney. Moreover, during the hearing, it turned out that the police forgot to bring the evidence and the investigative file arrived empty. It is not clear how it is possible to leave an individual in remand when there is no evidence against him. We hope that all of the detainees will be immediately released. There are no grounds for them to be detained in the GSS dungeons as their basic rights are violated.”
