Four minors falsely detained during olive harvest

Wednesday, October 26, 2016, 16:49 Honenu reports that four minors were falsely detained in the Shilo Bloc area at approximately 12:00 on Wednesday, October 26 by border policemen. The youths arrived at a location adjacent to the Jewish community of Adei Ad, close to where the Arabs were harvesting olives. The IDF had facilitated the entrance of Arabs to the location.
The four minors said that they were hundreds of meters aways from the Arabs when they were detained. After waiting for approximately two hours outside in the heat they were taken to the Department of Nationalist Crime in the Central Unit of the Yehuda and Shomron Police, where they were ordered by the policemen to wait to be interrogated. In the end, after waiting for close to four hours they were released, without being either interrogated or informed of the accusations against them.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom arrived at the police station and provided the detained minors with legal counsel. Rom leveled criticism at the police for what appears to be a false detention and serious misconduct: “Unfortunately we have again encountered a case of barely criminally responsible minors being detained and brought to the police station, and then not even interrogated. This shows the intolerable ease with which the Israeli Police pursues youths for merely wandering around the hills of Yehuda and Shomron. This conduct is unacceptable and we are considering filing a suit against the police who carried out the illegal detention and will demand their prosecution to the full extent of the law.”
