Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 21:20 As of now, five out of the ten soldiers who were detained on the Sde Teiman base on suspicion of assaulting a Nukhba terrorist prisoner have been released. Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom are representing some of the soldiers. Other soldiers are being represented by defense attorneys from the Military Advocate General.
On Tuesday (yesterday), the Beit Lid Military Court extended the remand of the IDF soldiers who have not yet been released. Attorneys Keidar and Rom filed an appeal against the decision on behalf of the soldiers whom they are representing. In the appeal, the attorneys cited the tendentious leakage of investigative material to the press – including a video clip that they had not yet received.
In the appeal, the attorneys sharply criticized the conduct of the Military Criminal Investigation Division (MCID) interrogators and the Military Advocate General: “One’s stomach turns at the disproportionate determination of the MCID to interrogate IDF soldiers regarding their actions during a military operation. The interrogation was denigrating and humiliating to the soldiers, violating their freedom, both theirs and their families. It is shocking that the appellees have no legal protection [within the MCID], and not one rational member of the authorities will empathize with their plight and call out, ‘Enough!’.
“Enough with the arbitrary detentions by the military judicial authorities and the intensive use of the euphemistic ‘disciplinary grounds’ concerning reserve soldiers. These soldiers have families, they are the salt of the earth who at high personal cost left their homes on the Simhat Torah holiday [October 7] and have been serving reserve duty almost continuously until now. As if that were not enough, the resounding conclusive proof of the disgraceful conduct of the MCID and the Military Advocate General are the uncontrollable leaks of evidence which are alone sufficient grounds to release the detained soldiers.”
A hearing has been scheduled for 10:15 tomorrow at the Beit Lid Military Court.

On July 30, the court ignored the soldiers’ concerned families and held a hearing in their absence.
Initially, Honenu Attorneys Rom and Keidar were prevented on various pretexts from meeting with the detainees and granting them legal counsel.
