Thursday, January 26, 2023, 7:55 Yesterday, an Arab was indicted in the Jerusalem Magistrates Court for assaulting a Jewish youth on his way to prayers at the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem approximately one year ago. (See video below.) The indictment attributes to the assailant the crime of racially motivated simple assault.

In January 2022, as the Jewish youth was walking through alleyways in the Old City of Jerusalem on his way to prayers at the Western Wall, two Arabs walking up the road appeared opposite him. When they came close to him, one of them bent down and punched him in the groin. The other Arab shouted at and cursed the victim. The Arabs continued on their way after the assault. The victim reported the incident to nearby policemen who apprehended and detained the Arabs.

The victim filed a complaint about the assault, and the police took video clips from the security cameras at the scene. However, after a time, the office of the State Attorney closed the case. Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is representing the victim, appealed the decision and after a long legal battle, the assailant was indicted.

Bleicher welcomed the indictment and said, “Jews are constantly under attack throughout Israel, particularly in the Old City of Jerusalem. The way to eradicate terror is by investigating incidents and penalizing terrorists to the full extent of the law. We in the Terror Victims Department of Honenu work non-stop to bring terrorists to trial and hope that now that the appeal has been accepted, lessons will be learned for handling other incidents of this type and more terrorists will be indicted.”
