Honenu: Soldiers’ hands must not be tied

Thursday, August 25, 2022, 8:30 This morning (Thursday), as an organization that assists soldiers and policemen who encounter legal crises, Honenu sharply criticized the detention of soldiers from the Nahal Hareidi Netzah Yehuda Regiment. Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar provided initial legal counsel to the soldiers.

Honenu issued a statement: “These soldiers are fighting for all of us. They were forced to arrest suspects who attempted to escape and also clashed with them. That was after the suspects tried to run them over. IDF soldiers are authorized to exert force and must do so when the situation in the field demands it. The hands of soldiers fighting terror must not be tied.

“The detention of the soldiers last night and the investigation opened against them send a problematic message to soldiers in the field. IDF soldiers must not be concerned about investigations during operational activities. This is a dangerous situation that is liable to endanger lives. We call on the Military Criminal Investigation Division and the Military Advocate General to immediately release them.”
