Honenu to DM Katz: Release the administrative detainees

Tuesday, December 3, 2024, 16:23 Honenu received data from the Prison Service revealing a sharp rise in the number of Jewish administrative detainees during Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s term, rising from none in 2021 to 18 in 2024 (as of December 3). Also, during the previous year, 2023, there was a high number of Jewish administrative detainees, 16. One week ago, newly-appointed Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that administrative detention orders will no longer be served to Jewish Yehuda and Shomron residents. Administrative orders were supposed to be reserved for extreme scenarios in which Israel’s enemies pose a tangible and fundamental danger to State security. Currently, there are eight Jewish administrative detainees, some of whom are married and have children.

Honenu Director Shmuel (Zangi) Meidad is calling on Defense Minister Yisrael Katz to end the persecution: “The Jewish residents of Yehuda and Shomron are not the enemy. Our security forces should direct their efforts toward Israel’s enemies who repeatedly attack Israeli citizens. We call on Minister Katz to immediately release all of the Jewish administrative detainees from Israeli prisons.”

This table shows the number of Jewish Israeli administrative detainees in the custody of the Prison Service by year over the past 7 years:
