Tuesday, November 8, 2022, 9:09 Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher wrote a letter to the police demanding that an Arab who was filmed beating a Jew (the complainant) be located and detained. In his letter, Bleicher described the incident, which included violent rioting on the part of Arab residents of the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood in Jerusalem. Bleicher also wrote that the incident was documented, the recording was transferred to the police, and the police must do everything that they can to detain the perpetrator and put him on trial.
During the incident, which was filmed, one of the rioters approached the complainant, a journalist from Hadashot Kol HaOlam, and beat him several times with a metal chain. When several Jewish youths came to the assistance of the journalist, the attacker fled. In the recording of the incident, a police car is seen near the site of the incident. However, the police did nothing to prevent the horrific attack.
The victim described the attack: “Half a minute after the violence started, the police arrived and parked. The rioters had no fear and continued to throw rocks as they hid behind the police car. I found a place and tried to film the incident, thinking that no rioter would come close, but one of the rioters went around the police car toward me and started to whip me hard. Two youths who saw it drove them [the rioters] away and saved my life.”
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher: “This was a serious attack, dangerous and antisemitic, carried out arrogantly, with no fear of the law. We hope that the police will do everything necessary to bring the rioter to trial and penalize him to the full extent of the law.”
