Thursday, November 7, 2024, 12:06 The GSS refused a request by a Jewish security prisoner for several hours’ leave to attend his daughter’s Bat Mitzva celebration, despite his right by law to a furlough. The prisoner is serving a sentence for assaulting Arabs. Although officials in the Prison Service recommended the prisoner for furlough, in light of the position of the GSS, the prisoner was not released for the celebration last week.

Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski, who is representing the prisoner, leveled criticism at the Prison Service: “The prisoner is entitled to a furlough after serving nine years of his sentence. From the first day, he took responsibility and expressed remorse for his acts. The refusal by the GSS of his furlough request for his daughter’s Bat Mitzva celebration on the grounds that he is dangerous is completely baseless. According to testimony from the prison guards, the prisoner exhibits exemplary behavior. What danger does an exemplary prisoner who has already been behind bars for nine years pose? This is a disgrace. Instead of combating our enemies, the GSS continues their failed policies against Jews.”
