Tuesday, May 11, 2021, 11:07 Last night (Monday, May 10), a Lod resident was detained after defending himself and his neighbors from rioting Arabs. He was forced to open fire with his legally-held personal weapon to drive away masked rioters who attacked a large group of Lod residents and their homes with rocks, clubs, and Molotov cocktails.
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing the detainee, visited him at the police station this morning and provided legal counsel. The detainee is a married father of four children in his early 30s who works in hi-tech. He served in an elite army unit and actively serves in the reserves. He is also a social activist in Lod and a member of a large charitable organization which helps the needy in Lod.
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar: “Last night the residents of Lod experienced a severe pogrom, a night of terror. Cars were torched, synagogues were damaged, and the lives of citizens, who were evacuated to hospital, were endangered. The fact that the police first abandoned the citizens to serve as a human shield, and then investigated them for murder, should make the public lose sleep. My client acted as was expected of him. He shielded other people’s lives with his body and if it were not for his intervention, the incident would have ended in tragedy for innocent people. I demand the immediate release of the suspect. Many residents of Lod owe their lives to him.”
14:34 Update: Two more Lod residents who defended citizens of the city during rioting last night (Monday) have been detained and all three will be brought to a deliberation at the Rishon LeTzion Magistrates Court today at 17:00.
