Policeman pretends to be postal employee, youth served with administrative order

Monday, July 29, 2019, 18:38 On the afternoon of Sunday, July 28, a policeman phoned a family’s home, pretending to be an employee of the Israel Post (Israeli Postal Authority). A 13-year old girl answered the call, which was from an unlisted number. She described the conversation: “He [the policeman] identified himself as being from the Israel Post and asked, ‘What family have I reached?’ and I answered him. After that he said, ‘I have a package here for (brother’s name). I told him that that was my brother.”
Then the undercover policeman began to extract information from the girl: “He asked me, ‘Do you live on — Street, Number 6?’ I replied yes, but Number 8. He said that he had a package to deliver to my brother and asked, ‘Is he at home?’ I replied yes. At the end of the conversation he told me that, ‘We’ll come between six and eight.’”
The girl said that her brother, a 17-year old youth who was already under an administrative order banning him from entering Yehuda and Shomron, had been next to her during the conversation. She told her brother that the Israel Post had a package to deliver to him. He began to be be suspicious about the story and said, “Let’s hope it’s not the police.”
The girl continued: “It sounded legitimate to me. I wasn’t suspicious at all. A quarter of an hour later my brother left our building and headed towards his yeshiva. He was surrounded by policeman. They served him with an additional administrative order, this time prohibiting him from contacting 20 specific individuals. I felt pangs of conscience, as if I had brought this on my brother.
“I felt guilty. I am angry at the police. It’s not nice when someone tricks you like this, and when the police have to lie to you in order to get their work done. They didn’t ask for one of my parents, or another adult. They took advantage of the fact that a young girl answered the phone, and got information out of me without identifying themselves.
“My brother isn’t mad at me. He understands that I couldn’t have done anything differently.”
Honenu: “The Israeli Police have broken their own records with the deceitful methods they are using on minors. Bibi Netanyahu is exclusively in charge of the GSS, and he knows and signs [on the orders].
“The administrative orders served wholesale to youths in Yehuda and Shomron are a crime. They are issued without a trial and without a judge. The outrageous conduct described here adds insult to injury and indicates that the youths are being persecuted. Why is everyone keeping quiet about it?”
