Monday, April 15, 2024, 12:01 On Saturday night (after Shabbat), at dozens of intersections throughout Yehuda and Shomron, hundreds of residents demonstrated after the announcement that the body of Binyamin Ahimeir, Hy”d, a 14-year-old shepherd, was found. His body was found near the Malachi HaShalom farm. Ahimeir was viciously murdered when he took a flock of sheep out to graze.
To prevent demonstrations, the area brigade commander signed a closed military zone order binding on a series of intersections. However, protests were held at Kiryat Arba Junction, the traffic circle near the community of Adam, K’far Adumim, Kochav HaShahar Junction, Yakir Junction, Ofra Junction, Ariel Junction, near Nabi Elias, and other locations. Border police officers removed protesters from intersections and detained four of them. Honenu is counseling and representing the detainees.
Honenu issued a statement: “What protesters may do at anti-judicial reform demonstrations on Kaplan Street is forbidden to Yehuda and Shomron residents at their demonstrations. What is done as a matter of course at left-wing demonstrations, resulted in military orders being issued against Yehuda and Shomron residents. This persecution must stop.”
In related news, only a day after Ahimeir’s funeral, two Binyamin residents who live in communities near the farm where he was murdered were detained on Sunday night by the GSS on suspicion of participating in protests after the murder. Honenu Attorneys Nati Rom and Daniel Shimshilashvili are representing the detainees, one of whom is a minor.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom: “While the youth’s murderers are walking free and have not yet been apprehended, the GSS detained two Binyamin residents who live close to the murder site and accused them of attacking Arabs. They unequivocally deny all charges. I suggest the GSS concentrate on finding despicable murderers, who repeatedly attack Israeli citizens, including youths, who love and defend their country, and fighting an all-out war against the cruel enemy trying to destroy us, instead of making a show of detaining Yehuda and Shomron residents while a war is raging on!”
