Thursday, June 8, 2023, 20:52 The GOC of the Central Command, Major-General Yehuda Fuchs prevented a Yehuda and Shomron resident under house arrest from taking part in his brother’s bar mitzva celebration on June 7. The resident was released from several months of administrative detention one week previously. He was detained on suspicion of involvement in illegal protest activities in Hawara following an attack there in which Hallel and Yagel Yaniv, Hy”d, were murdered in February. He was not allowed to enter Yehuda and Shomron regions after his release from administrative detention, except for house arrest in Beit El. Immediately upon his release to house arrest, he wrote to Major-General Fuchs requesting permission to take part in his brother’s bar mitzvah celebration in Beit El. Maj.-Gen. Fuchs denied the request. Five days later, Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar appealed the decision to the military court on behalf of the resident. The military judge replied that she refuses to rule on the appeal because of the unwillingness of representatives from the GSS and the IDF to come to a hearing on short notice and also because, she claims, the resident filed the request late.

Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar commented, “My client is being persecuted unjustly by the security forces. Their refusal to allow my client to take part in his brother’s bar mitzva celebration – a basic and humane request – is a new low of unreasonableness.”
