Right-wing activist summoned over tweets

Tuesday, January 30, 2024, 9:53 The persecution of Yehuda and Shomron residents continues. Several days ago, right-wing activist Ayelet Lash was summoned to a hearing by the Civil Service Commission over several tweets denouncing Arab terror that she posted on her Twitter account three years ago. The Commission claims that Lash, who works as a teacher, posted racist slurs against Arabs and statements inciting against Arabs and former Environmental Protection Minister Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) in three separate tweets in 2021. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the Commission’s Civil Servants’ Disciplinary Court in Jerusalem.

In reaction to the summons, Ayelet Lash said, “This is simply a disgrace. For over 100 days, I have been home by myself, with the children, because my husband is a combat soldier on reserve duty. I rotate between my job as an educator and maintaining a home. The hearing is a slap in the face from the State that I serve and an ugly attempt to silence me. I was interrogated by the police for my posts in three different investigative cases. All of them were closed due to lack of guilt. Even the State Attorney’s Office closed the cases against me. Instead of the government dealing with genuine instigators such as Ahmed Tibi, who was the advisor to an arch-terrorist and is currently a member of Knesset in Israel, they are coming for me, who warned and cautioned against a massacre or a pogrom, such as that which did indeed occur on Simhat Torah [October 7].

“These days, there are school principals who act antisemitically and expel students who ask to pray with tefillin at school. Nobody is interrogating them. Nobody criticizes them. Public figures incite to refusal [of military orders] and to civil disobedience, and none of them are interrogated. None of my posts are racist or inciteful. They are simply a reflection of reality.”

Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing Lash, commented on the case: “The police examined Ayelet’s posts and chose not to put her on trial because she had not committed any crime. Despite that, another arm of the government chose to try to put Ayelet on trial. We will fight this discriminatory and biased case with determination. If the Civil Service Commission thinks that they will educate Ayelet by summoning her to a hearing, they are wrong and misleading others. We will fight for her full acquittal.”
