Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 16:21 On the evening of Monday, January 6, three protesters were detained at the String Bridge in Jerusalem at a demonstration marking four years since Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, was killed in a police car chase by the Yehuda and Shomron Police. The detainees, some of whom are minors, were blocking the street at the entrance to Jerusalem. The protesters reported severe police brutality at the scene. Honenu attorneys are providing the detainees with legal counsel.

The next day, January 7, the Jerusalem Magistrates Court released the three protesters. At the hearing, the police requested a six-day remand extension, claiming that the detainees had lit fires in the street. The court denied the request and released the detainees.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli, who is representing the detainees, issued a statement: “The court made a resolute decision to immediately release my clients despite the request from the police to extend their remand. I am pleased with this important ruling. Decisions such as this return public trust to the judicial system, which is currently at an unprecedented low.”
Since the death of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, who was tragically killed in a police-car chase on 6 Tevet, 5781 (December 21, 2020), Honenu has been representing those who are demanding a judicial investigation of the cause of the death, and also defending the many who are detained while demonstrating for a change in the police behavior that led to the fatal car ramming. The car Ahuvia was in, with four other boys, overturned when a police car collided with it from behind. Please click here for a list of posts connected to the case.
