One of the most recent cases to be handled by Honenu is that of the five “spies” released by the Jerusalem District Court this past Tuesday, January 10 to house arrest. They were accused of organizing demonstrations designed to thwart the evacuation of outposts
According to the State, the five defendants operated a “command center” from which they called residents and youth to come to the outposts. On Monday, December, 12 news arrived of large forces of police and border police on their way to the outposts scheduled to be destroyed by the government: Mitzpeh Yitzhar and Ramat Gilad. Consequent to the arrival of the hundreds of demonstrators to the outposts, the destruction was canceled. During the night the “Ephraim Brigade incident,” at which dozens of youth entered the base and punctured the tires of several jeeps of the destruction forces, also occurred.
Due to the strong resistance to the planned destructions, the State has brought cases against those associated with the “command center” – which has been operated for a few years by the Shomron and Binyamin Regional Councils. Initially the police tried to charge the five defendants with serious espionage; but soon they understood that this was impossible. The accusations were absurd.
