Monday, July 3, 2023, 13:42 In December 2020, during a police car chase in the Binyamin region, an unmarked police car rammed the car that Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, and four other youths were driving. Ahuvia was tragically killed when their car overturned, and his friends were injured. On Monday, July 3, the trial of Ahuvia’s friends began at the Jerusalem District Court. Ahuvia’s parents came to the hearing in support of their son’s friends. Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar, Moshe Poleski, Yitzak Bam, and David HaLevi are representing the youths.
At the opening of the hearing, Attorney Keidar said, “At the beginning of the hearing, we raised our claims and stated our intent to conduct legal proceedings that will reveal all of the failures in the handling of the incident. This indictment is motivated completely by the desire to cover up for the genuinely guilty parties in the case – the Yehuda and Shomron Police officers and the people in the State Attorney’s Office who were involved with white-washing the incident. We will continue with legal proceedings until the court withdraws the indictment.”
Attorney Poleski added, “The youths never should have been indicted. The police officers set off on a reckless chase after the youths, and in the end, one of them was killed. Despite everything, the State Attorney’s Office is still persecuting the friends of that youth in order to cover up the irresponsible actions of the police officers. We are convinced that the truth will be revealed in court.
Attorney Bam also leveled sharp criticism at the police: “Ahuvia Sandak’s blood is on the hands of the Israel Police, and no indictment will cleanse it.”
Avraham Sandak, Ahuvia’s father said, “We are witnesses to an absurd situation. The policemen who rammed the car that my son was riding in killed him and almost killed his friends. They have not been put on trial, but Ahuvia’s friends are being put on trial. There is no logic here.”
