Two Kfar Duma case detainees to be released

Sunday, December 20, 2015, 16:53 On Sunday, December 20, the GSS announced to the court that it would release two of the detainees in the Kfar Duma arson incident case to house arrest. One of the detainees scheduled to be released is a minor who has been detained for more than 20 days, during which time he was banned from meeting with an attorney and suffered violence at the hands of his interrogators. The second detainee, an adult, has been detained for over a week. The interrogators treated him violently too and for several days he was banned from meeting with an attorney.
Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who is representing one of the detainees, stated that, “The request by the police to release the detainees indicates better than a thousand witnesses that the truth will prevail. During the entire period of the investigation we said over and over again that the detainees are innocent and that the entire goal of the GSS has been to attempt to obtain false confessions. The manner in which the GSS has handled the investigation very nearly caused a detainee to falsely confess due to physical and verbal abuse while under interrogation.”
Honenu: “By agreeing to release the detainees to house arrest, the GSS has admitted for the first time that the interrogators kept an innocent minor under inhumane conditions. We hope that details of the conduct of the GSS, of which only a small part has been revealed so far to the public, will be fully revealed.”
