Thursday, August 25 16:10 Two Ofakim residents were arrested yesterday on suspicion of an arson attempt on the house of an Arab resident of the city. The two were arrested yesterday afternoon by detectives from the Ofakim police and taken in for interrogation.

There is a serious problem in Ofakim with Jewish girls being harassed by Arab residents of the city and by Bedouins who come to the area. Approximately three years ago a resident of Ofakim stabbed to death a Bedouin who was in a relationship with an approximately 16 years old Jewish girl residing in the city.
This morning the two Ofakim residents were brought to the Be’er Sheva Magistrate Court for a deliberation at the request of the police to extend their remand by seven days. Honenu attorney Adi Kedar represented the two. The court accepted the request and extended their remand by seven days.
According to the police, one of the detainees linked himself to the incident, however the other denies all charges.
Honenu attorney Kedar announced that he would consider appealing the decision in court.
