Two out of three Yitzhar detainees released

Thursday, July 19, 2018, 15:37 Petah Tikva Magistrate Court Judge Erez Melamed ordered the release of two out of the three detainees from Yitzhar. They were released on bail and under an order distancing them from the Kumi Ori outpost at which the incident for which they were detained occurred. The remand of the third detainee has been extended until Sunday, July 22, in order to examine his alibi, according to which he was close to the incident, but was not involved with it and only filmed it.
During the deliberation the representative of the State of Israel admitted that the police had not yet checked the alibi of the photographer because they had not had time to do so.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who represented the detainees, stated that, “Two out of the three suspects have been released, without being placed under house arrest and without being distanced from Yitzhar, We hope that the other detainee, who filmed the incident and did not take part in it, will be released soon as well.
“The claim by the police that they have not had time to examine the suspect’s alibi is outrageous. I hope that the police will find the time to verify the alibi of my client, which is backed by evidence, and will see that he did not take part in the incident. It should not be that someone who filmed an incident and even transferred his video clips to the media finds himself suspected of involvement with the incident. We hope that he will be released soon, as the other two detainees were,” added Rom.
