Verdict handed down in Yanai Weisman, Hy”d, case

Sunday, December 16, 2018, 17:29 On Sunday, December 16, the Military Court in Yehuda handed down a 35-year prison sentence to a terrorist, a minor, for the murder of Yanai Weisman, Hy”d. On February 18, 2016, members of a terror cell entered the Sha’ar Binyamin branch of the Rami Levy supermarket chain and began to stab shoppers. Weisman was murdered and one other man was injured. Due to the fact that the murderer is a minor, the court did not impose life imprisonment.
Weisman’s family reacted furiously to the verdict and demanded that the judges impose a life-sentence on the terrorist as a deterrent factor and to prevent terror attacks. Please note that the murderer of Dafna Meir, Hy”d, was sentenced to life in prison despite the fact that he was a minor. Weisman’s family was also awarded 1,000,000 NIS in compensation from the terrorist and the other victim who was injured in the same attack was awarded 250,000 NIS.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who is assisting the family, stated that, “Today a minor, one of Yanai Weisman’s murderers, was sentenced. He received a sentence of 35 years in prison. He did not receive life imprisonment, which in our opinion is most serious. The minor was convicted of murder, as part of a terror spree, and on the witness stand said that he was a fighter in the Hamas organization. It should not be that a terrorist such as he does not receive a life sentence, even if he is a minor.
Not sentencing a terrorist such as this to life imprisonment encourages terror. The [Weisman] family demanded that the Military Advocate General’s office appeal the verdict and that a life sentence be imposed on the terrorist, as is appropriate.”
