Serious injury narrowly averted in terror attack
Monday, February 1, 2021, 22:07 On the afternoon of Monday, February 1, an Arab terrorist attacked and attempted to stab a married hareidi yeshiva student near Salah a-Din Street and the Jerusalem District Court building. The incident began when the terrorist started to walk very close to the student. At some point he cursed the student and attempted to stab him. The student succeeded in shoving the terrorist away and suffered only a minor injury to his hand. He called the police, who arrived at the scene and combed the area in search of the terrorist.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher: “The terrorist attempted a serious attack. The student miraculously and thanks to his quick-wittedness instinctively shoved away the terrorist and saved himself from severe injury. We demand that the police, the GSS, and the rest of the security forces do all that they can to quickly apprehend the terrorist.”
Arab indicted for racially motivated attack
Tuesday, February 2, 2021, 11:37 In January 2020, the Jerusalem District Attorney’s office indicted an Arab resident of East Jerusalem for a racially motivated attack on a yeshiva student approximately 18 months previously. The bill of indictment describes the attack: The complainant and his friend were walking on Sederot Yerushalayim Street and there was no interaction between them and the defendant. Suddenly, out of hatred and hostility towards the complainant and his friend, because they were Jews, the defendant threw a small object the size of a marble that he had in his hand at the complainant three times. Suddenly, out of hatred and hostility towards the complainant and his friend, because they were Jews, the defendant threw three small objects the size of a marble that he had in his hand, at the complainant.
The complainant suffered pain from an injury to his shoulder and the back of his neck. For this act the Arab was indicted for a racially motivated attack. On behalf of the complainant, Honenu insisted to the police that the incident was humiliating and serious, therefore the police must open an investigation and apprehend the suspect.
Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher, who assisted the complainant: “This was a serious antisemitic incident. We are pleased that the police apprehended the suspect and also that the Jerusalem District Attorney’s office filed an indictment for a racially motivated attack. We will continue to follow the trial in order to ensure that the defendant is penalized to the full extent of the law. We hope that indictments of this type will deter others from antisemitic acts.”
