Yitzhar detainees unconditionally released

Tuesday, March 13, 2018, 19:49 On Tuesday, March 13, Petah Tikva Magistrate Court Judge Erez Melamed rejected the police request to distance from all of Yehuda and Shomron two of yesterday’s Yitzhar detainees suspected of violating a closed military zone. The court ordered their release on their own recognition.
The two Yitzhar residents were detained on Monday, March 12, with another youth, next to their houses, on suspicion of violating a closed military zone order. After interrogation the police demanded their release on condition of distancing from Yehuda and Shomron. The two detainees refused to sign on the order, spent the night in remand, and the following morning a court deliberation was held on their case.
At the deliberation Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi, who is representing the detainees, claimed that the closed military zone order is not binding on them because they are residents of the site. Hajbi also stated that the order was not presented to the detainees prior to their detention. At the end of the deliberation the detainees were unconditionally released on their own recognition.
Honenu Attorney Avichai Hajbi: “This was a false detention. In the coming days we will prepare a suit against the Israeli Police for negligence.”
