Monday, January 20, 2025, 15:34 On Monday, the Jerusalem Magistrates Court released two residents of Yehuda and Shomron who were detained the previous day after taking part in a demonstration protesting the release of terrorists as part of the deal to release the hostages from the Gaza Strip. At the hearing, the police claimed that the residents had set fire to Arab houses in a town in the Shomron and requested a remand extension. The court rejected the request and released the detainees.

The judge underscored in his decision that the right of Yehuda and Shomron residents to protest is equal to that of any other protester: “I did not find any grounds to differentiate between protesters in Yehuda and Shomron and protesters on Kaplan Street. Just as the detention of Kaplan Street protesters is baseless, so is the detention of other protesters.”

Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli, who is representing the Yehuda and Shomron residents, stated, “The court issued an unequivocal decision that constitutes a clear warning sign to the law enforcement authorities: Discrimination between protesting Yehuda and Shomron residents and protesting left-wingers will not be tolerated. This decision is more than an act of justice. It is an important step towards the return of public trust in the justice system.”
