Sunday, January 23, 2022, 21:14 Honenu Attorney Ariel Atari, who is representing Avraham and Ayelet Sandak the parents of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, issued a statement in response to news that the case against the policemen suspected of causing his death will be closed: “It is not clear why the Attorney General has recently needed to hide behind leaks to the media instead of openly speaking to the public and announcing his decision. For an entire year, the family has barely slept due to tense anticipation of the ruling, and the Attorney General has not taken the time to decide the case. We intend to continue the public and legal battle until those responsible for Ahuvia’s death pay for their acts.”

Honenu Attorney Menashe Yado added: “It has been over a year since the death of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, and the announcements by the Attorney General are exactly the same announcements with which the Police Investigation Unit (PIU) briefed reporter Moshe Nussbaum two or three days after the death. Before an expert opinion was submitted, before the evidence was gathered, and before a PIU investigation was conducted they leaked to every media source that this case would be closed.

“We are not surprised that there has been an announcement that the case against the policemen is expected to be closed. The ‘target was marked’ before the investigation, and the position of the Attorney General is as it was from the start, and that was expected. All of the demonstrations and all of the public wrath were not for nothing. We knew exactly where the judicial system was heading and the leak about where the Attorney General is heading does not surprise us. We will fight with all available legal means to overturn this disgraceful decision.”

Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar, who is representing the four youths who were injured in the accident: “We prefer to wait for the final and official decision concerning the youths who experienced a severe trauma after the death of their good friend at the hands of unrestrained policemen. We are still hopeful that the policemen will be penalized to the full extent of the law and that the youths will be able to rebuild their lives”
