Order preventing the detainees from meeting with an attorney
Monday, August 25, 2025, 18:39 Last Tuesday, the GSS detained two Binyamin residents, one of whom is married and has children. They were taken to a GSS facility, where they underwent harsh interrogations. During most of their remand, they were denied their right to meet with an attorney (see also here). They met with Honenu Attorney Asaf Gonen only yesterday (Sunday), after being detained for six days. Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli is also representing the detainees.
The detainees met with Attorney Gonen and described the humiliating treatment they received from the GSS interrogators: “They called us Nazis, terrorists. We were tied to a chair for hours during the interrogation.”
Attorney Gonen leveled sharp criticism at the GSS: “It is intolerable the GSS interrogators accuse suspects of being terrorists or Nazis, particularly when the alleged offenses are minor. From the start, the suspicion was that the protest that did not comply with certain limitations.”
Honenu Director Shmuel (Zangi) Meidad wrote to Prime Minister Netanyahu, who is in charge of the GSS, demanding he transfer the investigation from the GSS due to a conflict of interest. Meidad also expressed a strong argument that the General Security Service was abusing its authority: “In light of the conflict of interest, and the unusual means applied to the demonstrators protesting the GSS, I ask you as the individual in charge of the General Security Service to intervene immediately and transfer the investigation from the organization.”
At the beginning of the week, an additional Yehuda and Shomron resident was detained. The GSS suspects him of similar offenses. At the request of the GSS, the court imposed a gag order on the details of the investigation.
