Chief Rabbi: “Allow Meir Ettinger to participate in his firstborn son’s brit”

Sunday, April 3, 2016, 22:16 Rabbi David Lau, the Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi of Israel, answered Moriya Ettinger’s request for assistance and sent a letter to the Israeli Prison Service Commissioner, Lieutenant General Ofra Klinger, requesting that Meir Ettinger be allowed to participate in his firstborn son’s brit milah.
In his letter Rabbi Lau wrote that, “The brit milah is one of the most important commandments of the Jewish People and serves as testimony to the covenant between the Jewish People and G-d. It is one of the most special ceremonies in a father’s life and there is no doubt that not participating in his son’s brit milah is liable to cause him sorrow for the rest of his life.”
In conclusion the Chief Rabbi requested that Lieutenant General Klinger, “make every effort to find a way to allow Mr. Etttinger to participate in his son’s brit milah, of course while maintaining the needs and demands of security and adhering to the relevant regulations.”
