Wednesday, June 28, 2023, 14:36 A short time ago, the Jerusalem Magistrates Court conditionally released one of the Yehuda and Shomron residents who was a good friend of Nachman Mordoff, Hy”d, one of the Eli terror attack victims. The resident was held for approximately one week under harsh conditions by the GSS and denied his right to meet with an attorney for several days.

In his decision, Judge Amir Shaked rejected the request by the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police to extend the detainee’s remand by eight days and accepted Honenu Attorney Nati Rom’s opinion. Attorney Rom demanded his client’s release due to the fact that there was no evidence against him in the case. Three other detainees being held by the GSS will be brought to a hearing tomorrow, and their attorneys will demand their release.

Honenu Attorney Nati Rom stated, “As we claimed from the start, they made a mountain out of a molehill. We are pleased to announce that the first detainee was released today in court after being held for many days in GSS facilities and interrogated under severe conditions. He was kept in solitary, threatened, and manipulated. There is no evidence in the case against my client. He is innocent, despite the claim by the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police who shamelessly lied to the court about the quality of the evidence and the charges and about the interrogation conditions of my client. The purpose of the detention was to look good in the media and for international matters. The discriminatory law enforcement is outrageous. We hope that the other detainees will be immediately released. The time has come to put an end to the severe violation of human rights in general and the rights of Yehuda and Shomron residents in particular.”

The Yehuda and Shomron resident was detained last Friday when he was taken from a car by the GSS and the Yehuda and Shomron Police while traveling in the area of Peduel. A soldier, also a friend of the Eli terror attack victims, is still detained by the GSS and prohibited from meeting with an attorney. His status is unknown.
