Saturday, January 23, 2021, 21:59 The Givat Ronen resident detained this afternoon has been released. The resident, a married father of children, who had served in an IDF combat unit, was unconditionally released after a brief interrogation at the Ariel Police Station. The resident, who legally owns a licensed weapon, was not interrogated over or suspected of crimes connected to his personal weapon.
Honenu Attorney Nati Rom, who provided the resident with legal counsel, strongly criticized the detention: “It is very disappointing and incomprehensible why the border police decided to have a PR campaign at the expense of the residents. My client was detained within the area of the community, without having done anything at all. He was carrying his licensed pistol! And he was not interrogated over any crime connected to his personal pistol. When he arrived at the police station he stated that he had been detained through no fault of his own, and after a brief interrogation he was released. The quick release speaks for itself. I call on the Shomron Brigade Commander to calm the situation. I call on the GOC of the Central Command and the Internal Security Minister to examine why the border police are busying themselves with false PR announcements instead of taking care of on-going security issues. We will consider filing a suit over the matter.”
