Protests marked 30 days since Ahuvia Sandak’s death

Friday, January 22, 2021, 8:47 On Thursday, January 21, thousands of protesters demonstrated at approximately 100 intersections and other central locations throughout Israel, demanding that an external investigative committee be formed to examine the conduct of the Central Unit of Yehuda and Shomron Police in general and the death of Ahuvia Sandak, z”l, in a police chase in the Binyamin region on December 21, in specific. Protesters reported police brutality in several locations and tickets given for coronavirus regulations violations.
Honenu’s headquarters received reports of approximately 15 detainees in total. A detainee who was facially injured by border policemen lost consciousness at the Ariel Police Station and was evacuated by mobile intensive care ambulance to the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. Honenu Attorneys assisted the detainees, most of whom were released after interrogation.
Hundreds of protesters demonstrated at the String Bridge in Jerusalem and intermittently blocked the entrance to the city. There were clashes with the police and three protesters were detained, two of them brutally. Additional protesters were detained at Shilat Junction, in various locations in the Shomron region and at Shilo Junction.

In northern Israel demonstrations took place in Tzfat, Karkur, Nof Ayalon, Nahalel, Tefen, Kiryat Motzkin, Karmiel, Ma’alot, Hadera, Poriah, Migdal HaEmeq, at Tzemach Junction and additional location. In southern Israel demonstrations took place in Ashkelon, Be’er Sheva, Eilat, Arad, Nitzan, Sederot, Lachish, Yad Binyamin, and in other locations.
In other regions of Israel demonstrations took place in Elad, Lod, Ramat Gan, Givat Shmuel, Bat Yam, Harish, Givata’im, Tel Aviv, Ganei Tikva, Mevaseret Tzion, Beit Shemesh, Holon, Rehovot, and Ramleh, at Ra’anana Junction, Yarkon Junction, and Sirkin Junction, and in other cities and at other intersections.
In Yehuda and Shomron demonstrations took place at dozens of intersections and at other central locations. Protesters closed the Jordan Valley Road for a lengthy period of time. Border policemen and soldiers unsuccessfully attempted to disperse protesters at the Shomron Brigade Base Junction. The soldiers presented to the protesters a closed military zone order signed by the Shomron Brigade Commander, Colonel Ro’i Tzveig which prohibits the demonstration at that site.

Friday, January 22, 2021, 13:03 The protester who was detained yesterday and lost consciousness at the Ariel Police Station after suffering police brutality will be brought to a deliberation at the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court shortly.
In a video clip documenting the detention several border policemen are seen bending over a detainee who is screaming in pain. When he arrived at the Ariel Police Station, it was reported that he was injured in the face from police brutality and he was evacuated in a MDA mobile intensive care ambulance to the Beilinson Hospital. During the night he was returned to the police station and he is suspected of assaulting policemen. At the deliberation Honenu Attorney Nati Rom will demand his immediate release.
