Head of DCL Center, Shechem assaulted youth, broke camera

Sunday, January 28, 2018, 14:11 Honenu Attorney Menasheh Yado filed a complaint with the Public Relations Department of the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), against the head of the District Coordination and Liaison (DCL) Center in Shechem, who assaulted an outpost resident and broke his camera.
In a video clip which documents the incident, the head of the DCL Center is seen arriving at the Meginei HaAretz outpost adjacent to Har Bracha in the Shomron to patrol the area. During the patrol he entered a residential structure at the site and asked the commander with him to photograph the youths present. The youths demanded that the DCL Center head present a police ID and asked for his personal details. The DCL Center head replied derisively, and said, “Who are you anyway?” then hit and broke the camera with which one of the youths was documenting the incident.
In the complaint Honenu Attorney Menashe Yado mentions that the video clip shows, “thuggish violence on the part of the head of the DCL Center,” and added that COGAT should not back this violence and rather should censure a senior officer who used base violence.”
Yado demanded 15,000 NIS in compensation for the assaulted youth, to be paid out of the personal funds of the head of the DCL Center and not by COGAT, because, “This was a personal violation carried out by the head of the DCL Center, and there is no justification for covering the damages with public funds.”
Honenu Attorney Menasheh Yado also stated that, “During the recent destruction at Havat Gilad we were witnesses to violence on the part of COGAT. In both the current incident and the Havat Gilad incident the head of the DCL Center was present. We will demand that the authorities handle this frequently repeated conduct with the utmost seriousness.”
