Wednesday, July 31, 2024, 13:50 Following the decision by the military court yesterday (Tuesday), to extend the remand of eight of the ten soldiers detained on the Sde Teiman military base on suspicion of assaulting a Nukhba terrorist, Honenu Attorneys Adi Keidar and Nati Rom filed an appeal today, demanding the immediate release of the soldiers. The appeal was filed on behalf of the soldiers whom Honenu is representing. Other soldiers are being represented by defense attorneys from the Military Advocate General.

Today at 15:15, at the Neve Tzedek Military Court in Beit Lid, Attorneys Keidar and Rom will make a statement to the press and reveal details about the case. Immediately afterward, a hearing will take place on the appeal by the attorneys against extending the remand of the soldiers. The soldiers will be brought to the hearing. Unusually, the hearing was scheduled in Beit Lid and not the court of appeals at the HaKirya base in Tel Aviv. In the appeal, the attorneys cite the negligent investigation conducted by the Military Criminal Investigation Division (MCID) and present the discrepancies between the testimonies of the doctors who treated the terrorist after he rioted. As the terrorist was rioting, the soldiers demanded that the doctors treat him.

The attorneys also level sharp criticism at the Military Advocate General and the military court: “This incident will be remembered for generations only because of the manner in which the respondents acted. In the name of purity of arms and ethicality, they chose to trample the honor of IDF soldiers and denigrate them, thereby shocking an entire public. As if that were not enough, the court ignored the soldiers’ concerned families and held a hearing in their absence. The conduct of the military prosecution and the Military Criminal Investigation Division exemplifies the point of view that ensuring the honor of a despicable terrorist is more important than protecting the honor, rights, and status of suspects whose innocence should be presumed until the prosecution proves otherwise”

Initially, Honenu Attorneys Rom and Keidar were prevented on various pretexts from meeting with the detainees and granting them legal counsel.
