Thursday, June 15, 2023, 8:46 Yesterday (Wednesday), the Jerusalem District Court released from remand a 19-year-old Kochav Ya’akov resident who had been charged with throwing rocks at Arabs near his community approximately two months ago. The court accepted the position of Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski and released the detainee to house arrest in northern Israel.
The resident and his sister were detained as they were going for a walk just outside of Kochav Ya’akov on Shabbat approximately two months ago. He was charged with throwing rocks at Arabs during a confrontation with them. He denied all charges. His sister was released after a short time. He was released yesterday after a long legal battle.
Honenu Attorney Moshe Poleski, who is representing the resident, stated, “We welcome the court’s decision to release our client, a young man who does not have a criminal record, to an alternative to remand. From the time of the indictment, we reasoned that there were no grounds under the given circumstances to keep him behind bars, especially as the court was presented with an alternative to remand. He is a young man without a criminal record. The incident was not planned and the evidence connecting him to it is based on the testimonies of complainants who were in a state of emotional turmoil. Currently, after the young man who was about to be drafted sat in prison for two months, the parole board made a recommendation approving his release to an alternative to remand at a location far from his home and under the supervision of relatives.”
