Sunday, June 29, 2025, 19:47 On Sunday, the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court released three of the youths detained during an incident on Friday night at an outpost on the Mount Hatzor ridge in the Binyamin region at which a 14-year-old youth was shot by IDF forces. The remand of one minor was extended by one day. The court rejected a request by the police to extend the detainees’ remand by five days and released them on condition of a restraining order banning them from the site of the incident. At the request of the police, the court delayed the release to allow them time to consider appealing to the District Court.
Earlier on Sunday, police officers came to the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital to interrogate the injured youth. However, they left after they understood that his medical condition precluded interrogation. The operation that the youth was expected to undergo on Sunday has been postponed until the following day.
Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar welcomed the decision to release the detainees: “The incident started with problematic behavior, to put it mildly, by IDF officials. The police detained suspects whose likelihood of committing a crime is doubtful at best. The least that the court should have done was to release the detainees, and that they did. Unfortunately, the police is appealing rather than honoring a decision by two judges. We are absolutely certain that the District Court will reject the appeal and uphold the release of the detainees.”
