District Court upholds Mount Hatzor outpost detainees release

Monday, June 30, 2025, 18:23 On Monday, Judge Sharon Zenziper-Helfman of the Central District Court in Lod upheld the decision of the lower court and released three of the youths who were detained during an incident at an outpost on the Mount Hatzor ridge in the Binyamin region at which a 14-year-old youth was shot by IDF forces on Friday night. The youths were released under restrictive conditions. The previous day, the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court rejected a request by the police for a five-day remand extension and released three detainees. The police requested a delay in carrying out the decision to allow them time to appeal, which was granted.

Honenu Attorney Adi Keidar welcomed the decision and said, “At this moment, we concluded a hearing on the appeal by the police against the release of the detainees suspected of rioting, assault, and vandalism. Unfortunately, although the District Court understood that the evidence was weak, they insisted, apparently due to the extensive media coverage, on severe release conditions.

“Still, I am pleased that the detainees were released, and I am absolutely certain that the evidence is insufficient to put them on trial. I call on the police not to invent non-existent evidence. As much as they want to get to the bottom of the truth, they should do so in appropriate ways. Obviously, they also should investigate the accusations directed at the soldiers and the injuries caused to the civilians.”

On Sunday, police officers came to the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital to interrogate the injured youth. However, they left after they understood that his medical condition precluded interrogation. The operation that the youth was expected to undergo on Sunday was postponed until the following day.
