Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 16:22 Last Friday night, IDF forces arrived to demolish a Jewish outpost that was founded a few weeks ago on the Mount Hatzor ridge in the Binyamin region it. One IDF officer opened fire indiscriminately on the youths at the outpost, seriously injuring a 14-year-old boy. He is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Several other youths were detained during the incident. On Monday, the Central District Court in Lod upheld a ruling by the lower court and released three of the detainees under restrictive conditions.
Today (Wednesday), an additional detainee, a minor, was released to five days of house arrest by the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court in an agreement between the sides, after which he will be temporarily banned from Yehuda and Shomron. The remand of two adults detained at the incident has been extended until tomorrow. At this time, most of the detainees from the incident have been released. Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli is representing the hospitalized youth and the detainees.
Honenu Attorney Daniel Shimshilashvilli reacted to the situation: “The current decision to release the minor, which follows three additional decisions to release detainees against whom serious accusations were made, indicates unequivocally that, as we claimed from the first moment, the prosecution made a mountain out of mole hill. None of those involved in the incident intended to harm soldiers. We welcome the decision to release the detainee, and we thank the investigating unit for agreeing to the release.”
In related news, the military police and the Military Advocate General launched an inquiry into the shooting incident. In the framework of the inquiry, video clips documenting the behavior of the battalion commander during the incident were gathered, together with documents and other evidence from the hospital where the 14-year-old boy is hospitalized. The military police took the bullet removed from the boy’s body to be used as an exhibit in the evidence. The inquiry is being managed by senior officers of the Military Advocate General. Over the next few days, a decision will be made whether or not to turn the inquiry into a full-fledged investigation against the soldiers involved in the incident.
A source familiar with the legal details of the case stated, “I estimate that the inquiry will be turned into a full-fledged investigation. The security forces applied means and force contrary to regulations and inappropriate to the situation. The authorities understand this. The inquiry is in its early stages. However, based on the evidence gathered as of now, one may say that there will be no choice but to proceed with the matter, concerning both the investigation and disciplinary proceedings.”
