Thursday, September 18, 2025, 10:02 Six years ago, several Arabs attacked a Hareidi Jew in Jerusalem. One of the Arab assailants was detained and convicted in criminal proceedings. A year ago, he was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. The court also imposed an NIS 750 fine on him. Recently, Honenu Attorney Chayim Bleicher filed an NIS 130,000 civil suit against the assailant on behalf of the victim.
In the statement of claim, Attorney Bleicher described the attack: “The plaintiff was walking with a friend on Ma’alot Ir David Street in Jerusalem from the neighborhood of Silwan to the Western Wall. At some point, an Arab man who was with a group of Arabs shoved the plaintiff’s friend for no reason. In reaction, the plaintiff and his friend proceeded to the entrance of the City of David to receive protection from the security guards and call the police. The defendant, who was with a group of Arabs, threateningly approached the plaintiff and his friend, and threatened the plaintiff with hand gestures. The defendant then broke into a run toward the plaintiff, charged at him, and kicked him in the stomach as he jumped in the air. Afterward, another Arab in the group hit the plaintiff in the face and broke his glasses.”
Attorney Bleicher commented on the security situation in Jerusalem: “We are making every effort to exact a high price from Islamist terrorists who try to intimidate Jews in the capital city of Israel. In this incident, Jews were brutally attacked. The case was initially closed without an indictment, because the assailants had not been located. However, after an appeal and a legal battle, one of the assailants was located and indicted. For an unclear reason, the indictment did not mention the antisemitic motive, and the outcome of the proceedings was a ridiculous punishment. Now that the assailant has been convicted, we are suing the in civil proceedings with a damages claim to compensate the plaintiff and deter potential terrorists. We will no longer be silent.”
